Forget sci-fi movies—come watch robots solve real problems right in front of you. You’ll see them navigate the boulevard, handle tricky terrain, and complete tasks across five exciting “Episodes”:

🔧Episode 1: Pier Inspection and Maintenance– Watch specialized robots inspect the massive pillars of The Pier, checking for cracks and or other surface irregularities.

🍃 Episode 2: Robot Nature Rangers in the Dunes – Head toward the dunes to see how robots help our park rangers protect our environment and manage nature without disturbing the wildlife.

🏥 Episode 3: Medical Drone Delivery – We are testing how drones can fly life-saving medical equipment directly to patients on the beach.

🍹 Episode 4: Beach Club Assistants – On hot, sunny days, our “Barista Bots” and waiter-robots support beach club staff by bringing cold drinks and snacks to customers.

🧹 Episode 5: The Big Clean-Up – Waste gets everywhere! Watch clever robots (including LEGO-based platforms) clean the boulevard by sorting waste – represented by coloured balls) – into the correct bins.

Watch the progress: On 13 and 14 May, you can watch several practice runs throughout the day. This is a great chance to see the teams testing and fine-tuning their robots in the real world. On 15 May, the Grand Finals will take place. 

All practice runs and the finals are completely open to the public!

Ever wanted to ask a robot a question? In our demo area, you can get up close to the technology and see what makes these machines tick.

Live Demonstrations: We will have a wide variety of guest robots and smart city technologies on display throughout the event. As a special highlight, we are excited to host The Flying Dutchman team from the American School of The Hague! They will be showcasing their own impressive robotic creations and sharing their passion for engineering.

Step into the exciting world of drones! Try your hand at flying mini drones yourself and play fun drone flight games that challenge your skills and coordination.

Explore the demo table featuring different types of drones and talk directly with drone experts about how they work and where they’re used. Curious about coding? Discover how drones can be programmed and watch live demonstrations showing what these flying machines can do.

You’ll also learn about drone laws and regulations — what is allowed, what to watch out for, and how to fly safely and responsibly.

Let your imagination run wild as you build your own robot using LEGO® bricks. Create the most amazing designs, test your ideas, and show them off! Every day, winners are selected and rewarded with a prize. This workshop runs as a free walk‑in during the time block and is perfect for younger children who love to build and explore.

📅 When? The workshop lasts 1.5 hours—arrive at the start for the full experience. Joining later is also possible, but you might not be able to finish your robot.

Dive into the world of real robotics with technical LEGO®! In this hands‑on Robotex LEGO Sumo workshop, you’ll build a working robot, learn the basics of automation, and take part in exciting competitions. Participants of all ages are welcome. Come build, compete, and discover the fun of robotics at the European Robotics League!

Step into the heart of the competition and visit the working area of the teams taking part in the European Robotics League. See firsthand how engineers and researchers fine‑tune, repair, and prepare their robots for the next round of the competition. Watch real problem‑solving in action, discover what it takes to compete at this level, and ask questions directly to the experts behind the machines. A unique behind‑the‑scenes experience for anyone curious about robotics in practice.

The Robots Are Coming Filmfestival on Tour arrives at the Pier of Scheveningen. In a cosy screening room inside the pavilion (east side, ground floor), we present a curated selection of films and short specials that show robots as more than technology: a mirror of our society: from care and work to autonomy, identity, and the city of tomorrow. 

Drop in, or plan your visit around the ERL: grab a seat, get inspired, and join the conversation about these classics and what robotics means in real life.

A dark, bizarre stop‑motion sci‑fi film by Takehide Hori about an explorer entering an underground world inhabited by mechanical beings and monsters.

Pixar’s environmental sci‑fi classic about a waste‑collecting robot on an abandoned Earth who becomes part of a mission determining the future of humanity.

19:30–22:00 – Ex Machina (16+)
Alex Garland’s tense thriller in which a programmer tests a humanoid AI, raising sharp questions about consciousness, control, and manipulation.

A short film by Victoria Warmerdam that playfully explores identity and verification (CAPTCHAs) in a highly automated world.

Disney’s animated feature about a young inventor and his healthcare robot Baymax, who team up to stop a looming threat.

Spike Jonze’s intimate drama about a man who falls in love with an AI operating system, touching on love, loneliness, and technology.
